King's Fund report: District Nursing and patient care affected by NHS financial pressures
The King's Fund has released a report into the impact of NHS financial pressures on patients. "NHS financial pressures are increasingly affecting patient care, often in ways that go unseen..."
As well as identifying six ways in which funding pressures affect patient care, the authors also examined four services, including District Nursing.
Identifying what current practitioners and educators have been observing for some time now, they report:
"There is evidence that funding constraints and workforce shortages have led to a growing gap between demand and capacity. As a result, staff are being increasingly stretched, often leading to high levels of stress for them and a lower quality of care for some patients."
